Changing the text size, font colour, or text box background colors
To change these settings, you need to insert a text field first (from Edit Menu > Insert > Text) and then double-click the text placeholder on your page.
- This opens a new formatting window where you can change the font type, text size, text colour, and the background colour of the text box (including making it transparent - see image below).
- Click on the small text icons and discover all the possibilities.

Adding fun elements, like Speech Bubbles
You can add these by going to the Shapes icon in the top Edit menu.
- You can choose from inspiring options like "text clouds" (speech bubbles), arrows, hearts, and frames.
- Once the shape is added, you will need to add a text box into it separately and then write your text as usual.
Removing the dotted outline around my text box
If you are seeing outlines or borders around placeholders while working, these are just guide elements.
To see the final print lines (and ensure those editor lines are hidden), use the Preview button (the eye symbol). If the outline does not appear in the Preview mode, it will not appear in the printed book.
Mac editor
To add text:
You can insert an empty text placeholder in a few different ways:
- Top Toolbar: Click the Text button (T) located in the top toolbar.
- Menu Bar: Go to Item > Add text placeholder.
- Keyboard Shortcut: Press T on your keyboard.
How to Edit Text & Formatting
Enter Text Mode: Double-click inside the text placeholder to open the text editing menu.
Change Font and Style: Open the font menu via Format > Show Fonts (or use the top pop-up toolbar) to select font type, size, and colour.
Apply styles like Bold, Italics, or Underline via the Format menu.
Adjust Alignment & Spacing:
- Horizontal Alignment: Align text left, center, right, or justify under Format > Align Text.
- Vertical Alignment: Align text to the top, middle, or bottom of the box via Format > Align Text Vertically.
- Spacing & Lists: Adjust line height, paragraph spacing, and add bullet points or numbered lists directly within the text edit menu bar.
How to using Clipart for Fun Elements?
- Open the Clipart Library
- Click on the Clipart icon in the browser panel on the left side of your screen.
- Select and Place: Browse through the categories to find your element, then double-click or drag and drop it onto your page.
- Once your fun element or speech bubble is on the page, you can fully customize it: Resize, Rotate, & Mirror, Adjust Colors and Add Text Inside.
To turn a shape or speech bubble into a text container, add a separate Text Placeholder (T icon or Item > Add text placeholder) and drag it directly over the element. Use Bring to Front / Send to Back (Item Menu) to layer the text properly over the graphic.
Online editors and App
You can add and edit text in Online editors, however they do not propose such advanced options as our Windows or Mac softwares.
To add text:
- Click on text icon from the menu on the left or the menu on the top
- Write your text, choose the font, colour, size, alignment and bold/italic options.
For most books, you can also use the Text Mask feature:
Turn your photos into text shapes using Masks > Text Mask in the right-hand Inspector pan.
In the App, you can add text box, choose the size, font, colour and alignment of your text.
