Windows editor:
To add text:
- Click on the spine/cover
- Click on the pencil icon to add/edit text (or double click the text field)
- Add or edit your text and then click OK
Tip: It's best to design your cover (and spine) last, because the spine gets thicker as you add more pages to your book.
Once you've added your text, you can check that it will print correctly in two ways:
- Show Warnings: Go to the Check & Order menu and click "Show Warnings." This feature will flag potential problems, such as text placed dangerously close to the margins.
- Preview: Click the eye icon to enter "Preview" mode. This shows you exactly what the book will look like when printed, allowing you to verify that text is readable and aligned perfectly.
Mac editor:
- Move to the desired section on the cover or the spine of the book.
- Select the Text icon from the top toolbar, or go to Item > Insert Empty Text Placeholder (alternatively, simply press the T key).
Inputting and Modifying Text:
- To trigger the text editing options, double-click directly inside your new placeholder.
- Enter your custom title or message into the designated area.
Styling and Formatting:
Use the edit menu at the top or Format > Show Fonts to change the font, size, alignment, and color.
Tip: It is best to design your cover and spine last. Adding or removing pages changes the thickness of the spine, which can affect your cover layout. The software will warn you if you leave the spine text empty.
To check that it will print correctly:
- Use Preview Mode: Go to Product > Preview in the main menu (or press Cmd + P / click the Preview button at the bottom right).
Preview mode shows you what your pages and cover will look like in print, allowing you to flip through the book.
Note: You cannot edit while in preview mode.
- Check the Warnings Pane: Before ordering, check the Warnings tab in the right-hand pane (View > Right Pane or press Cmd + W).
The software automatically flags potential print issues, such as text placed too close to the margins or unreadable text contrast.
- Use Magnetic Margins:
Turn on magnetic margins (View > Show Magnetic Margins or press Cmd + M) to display blue dotted lines indicating page safety margins.
Online editor and App
